Apple cluster control is a technique for centrally managing multiple iPhones from one computer, without jailbreaking, without plugins and without dev boards.

This one answers: Run Reddit and Discord Accounts With Apple Cluster Control.

A small team building a tool for overseas markets started a Discord community last year. Three hundred members, maintained by two people.

This year they wanted Reddit too. The approach was direct: open a few accounts, translate the posts that worked in Discord, publish them in the relevant subreddits. A dozen were removed in the first month, and a moderator messaged one of the accounts with something less than friendly wording.

When they came to me they asked how to run multiple accounts on Reddit. After listening, I thought the better question was different.

Communities are not social media

Social media is about reach. You publish, the algorithm finds people. Frequency, hashtags and timing are what you optimise.

A community is about being present. You have to stay in the room, talk like a person, answer questions, and recognition follows.

Those two have completely different daily routines. Publishing can be batched into two hours. Being present cannot, somebody has to say something in the group at different points in the day. That is the exhausting part, and it is why two people could not hold it.

Reddit’s rules are harder than the platform’s

Every subreddit has its own rules, and many cap self-promotion, often at something like one link per ten contributions. Account age and karma matter too; a new account posting links usually does not survive review.

So my first recommendation was that Reddit is a bad fit for running many accounts. A brand usually needs one or two there, used for long-term participation rather than distribution. The moderator’s message was essentially saying: you do not look like you belong here.

If you do use scripts, what they help with is reminders and records, which subreddit allows what, whether this account has gone over its ratio this week, which replies need a human follow-up. That is watching, not posting on your behalf.

Discord is about people and pacing

A Discord server is more like a room. Whether newcomers get greeted, whether questions get picked up, whether old threads get revived, that is what decides whether it lives.

For their three-hundred-member server, the three most time-consuming jobs were greeting and onboarding new members, answering the same questions repeatedly, and pulling worthwhile discussions out of the noise.

The first can be semi-automatic: a rule-based direct message or channel post when someone joins. The second can be fully automatic: keyword matching against a FAQ, returning an answer and a doc link. The third needs a person, because deciding what is worthwhile is judgement.

Threads is simpler. Closer to a lighter version of Twitter, and the actions are just posting and replying, at a looser pace.

What to hand over

Scripts can cover mention sweeps, standard answers, welcome messages, scheduled publishing and cross-posting between platforms.

They cannot cover what to write, how to answer a contentious comment, whether this is the right week to post, or when the room’s mood has shifted and the approach needs to change.

One thing worth stating plainly: cluster control answers how many devices and accounts you can manage. It does not make you a real person in a community. If that part is missing, everything else being tidy does not help, the moderator’s message is the proof.

Devices and connections

This team has two people in two cities, two or three phones each for content, and they need to watch comments and messages at the same time.

For the phones that sit on a desk and do not move, a data cable is the simplest: console 10.7.0 or newer with phones on iOS 17 or newer, one cable each, no Bluetooth board, no OTG board, no jailbreak, no signing.

The trap with a distributed team is mixing devices across networks. Keep an account bound to one device rather than logging in from here today and there tomorrow. If you do work from two places, each person should manage their own devices and not log into the other’s accounts.

To drop cables entirely, a Bluetooth board (ESP32C3) covers it. Cable out of reach is the only case for an OTG board (ESP32S3, iOS 17 and above). The question is whether you have a distance problem. Connection options has more.

How many accounts to start with

With communities, starting wide means dying fast.

One account per platform, for three months. Get the Discord to a healthy three hundred, and on Reddit just participate normally, links excluded. Once people recognise you in a subreddit, then consider posting something.

That team cut Reddit down to a single account and answered questions without links. Three months later they posted a tool comparison in the subreddit. It stayed up, and people defended it in the comments.
